Perfect for my 3A, low porosity curls
I have a hard time finding products that work for my hair: They need to be moisturizing and provide strong definition & structure, without being greasy, crunchy or weighing my hair down. This gel is exactly that! It’s super lightweight but still provides great curl definition. Most leave-in conditioners are either too greasy or not moisturizing enough for me, and this gel is right in between. It leaves my hair soft and crunch-free, and smooths my frizz without any greasiness. The tropical scent is a little strong for my taste but it’s much more subtle once it dries. Even with my short men’s cut I have to use a decently sized dollop, so I don’t imagine the tub would last long for longer hair, but for the price it’s still totally worth it 🙂

Pros:This product had a soft hold on my hair. My hair wasn’t super defined. It did not make my hair crunchy or stiff. It did not dry my hair out. It was very easy to use a pick to style my hair the following day because my hair was still soft.Cons:It did flake. It wasn’t like my hair was snowing flakes. Rather, I noticed some flakes while styling the next day. I have multiple textures of hair. I noticed the flaking on the more frizz prone areas of my hair. ( I tend to always use more product on this area of my hair anyway.) I believe the flaking was due to the product being “ caked” on this hair.Final Decision:I like this product and will purchase again. I will use this product for my “soft hold hair”days. What I plan to do differently is to use a moderate amount. For my specific hair type, this is not the product that will bring super definition to my hair anyway. There are other products I can use for that.

I have very long, very curly hair that tends to go frizzy. I had been using a clear setting gel, but it’s full of horrible chemicals and was looking for something a little more natural that would define my curls and hold back the frizz. I was a little nervous about this product because it is not unscented, however, the scent is nice and very subtle. It doesn’t give me a headache, doesn’t bother my husband, and the gel really does its job. My curls are nicely defined without looking waxy, and my hair feels soft once the gel has dried. It does everything my old setting gel does, but without the Petro chemicals. I will be buying this again.

For those liking a thick gel…
I decided to give this gel a try, though, the consistency appeared thick. My hair is not as thick as it used to be and thick gels no longer work well on it. What I look for is how the gel glides in my hair. Is there shine?What is the definition like and most important what is the hold like? This gel was too tacky for my hair, it doesn’t glide down the hair, it’s just slightly sticky. There is some shine, but minimal. It smells good and you get a lot of product.The definition was just okay. All of my curls were not clumping together, I could see by the way some pieces of my hair were not fully curling that the gel was too heavy. The hold wasn’t good for me. Just because a gel is thick doesn’t mean the hold will last and I only got 2 days with this gel, and I could tell by day one that it was barely going to make it to day 2. My hair looked old by day 2.I like SheaMoisture products, I think this could be a good gel for some, to be fair it does state for THICK curly hair.
