Converted Skeptic Can’t Stop Evangelizing
If you had asked me a year ago if I would ever try a product like this, I would have said, “Nah. Not my thing. Thanks anyway, weirdo!” But, after a few weeks of research and becoming increasingly disappointed by the discomfort and unreliability of standard products, I thought it was worth a shot. It took a day or so to get the hang of it, but I can happily report that this product far outperformed my preferred brands of tampons and pads by a LONG SHOT. It’s comfortable, reliable, re-usable (don’t cringe!) and designed to work with my body. Now, I am encouraging my friends to buy the LENA cup or something similar so they can experience more freedom during their period. And trust me, I’ve never been one to “celebrate my womanhood”, so to speak. But the LENA cup has really changed my perspective on the whole period discussion and had given me new peace of mind. Here are a few tips if you’re still on the fence:Tip #1: Read, girl. Read.I am sure LENA’s website is great, too, but my favorite resource for info on this subject is http://www.putacupinit.com. Yes, it’s a real website, and nothing creepy, I promise! All the questions you have in your head about how to use this thing will be put to rest there. You can also take a quiz that will offer recommendations for a cup brand, which is how I chose the LENA model.Tip #2: Don’t PanicJust chill. Yes, this product requires you to be (or become more) familiar with your own body, but it is worth it! Honestly, the experience is not as horrifying as you may think. It takes equal (if not less) time to empty/rinse/replace the cup as it does anything else. And it’s no more messy. Really!Tip #3: Think AheadSince I am still a first-time user, I don’t know I would feel comfortable managing this device in a public restroom. Mainly for access to a private sink. You can purchase cleaning “wipes” for this purpose. Meh – not sure about that. However, since you only need to empty this 2-3 times a day (3 for me on the heaviest day only), you could invest in a second cup for public/work scenarios. After emptying the first cup, you could wipe it out and store it in a zip-loc bag and swap in the sterilized cup. That would save you a really weird experience at the sink.Other side note – I have not used this for swimming yet, but I plan to! Never have I ever said that before. I usually ditch the idea of swimming that time of the month. I’ll try and write an update once I’ve taken the plunge with this thing.Reasons to “woman up” and give this thing a try:1. Convenience and peace of mind. When properly placed, it’s leak-proof and anxiety-free!2. Better and safer for your body – no risk of TSS or other harmful chemicals3. It’s comfortable! Remember, take the quiz and try the recommendation. Don’t give up, because once you find one that works, you’ll be amazed.4. Eliminate waste and save money. We dump A LOT of the old stand-by products into landfills! Help the environment and your wallet with the LENA cup. It basically pays for itself in two months, and if properly cared for, can last well over a year. We’re busy chicks. We’ve got great things to go out there and do/try/experience/conquer. Don’t get held back by your period. Give the LENA cup a chance. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Take it from a skeptic who finally got up the nerve.

No leaks, comfy/like its not there, easy, saves $ and helps the environment…
I discovered the menstrual cup today- OMG! Here was my review on Amazon:AMAZING! I can’t believe women aren’t shooting about this product from the roof tops. It is so convenient, easy to use and comfortable. It’s like I’m not on my period at all. I’m able to swim on my period!. I don’t have to worry about not having enough tampons or being unprepared. The cup is small and comes with a cute cotton bag so you can keep it with you just in case. When you factor in the huge cost saving (I averaged my savings to be $80 a year- no more buying tampons or pads EVER!) and less environmental waist/pollution- if women just knew about this- then tampons and pads for menstruation would be a thing of the past. Thank you sooooo much for all those who made this possible! The skinny:• There was no leakage. When I wear tampons I have to also where a pad due to leaking. The menstrual cup makes leaks a thing of the past.• You can where it for up to 12 hours while you pee and pooh normally- basically you only need to empty its contents and clean it in the morning and evening. The rest of the time its like its not even there- of course you cant have sex with it in.• If you don’t get it in right it can feel like its about to poop out and gives you a feeling of pressure down there- but I quickly figured out that this is because I didn’t put it in far enough. I got the hang of it quickly and figured out to get the best fit i had to relax my vaginal muscle to fit the folded up cup into me about an inch up the canal. Once you walk around, sit and I sometimes added a stretch it pretty much self corrects and situates itself on its own. Its a very low maintenance friend.• Make sure to read the instructions- it’s super easy, but their are tips in the instructions that make insertion and removal much easier.• I just washed it out in the sink between uses, but you can also boil it and it will still last forever.• The only down side is that you should wash it out after emptying it so you need to make sure you have easy access to a sink every 12 hours- totally doable.• If you needed to change it more frequently, on high flow days for example, you could get an extra menstrual cup to poop in and a zip lock to put the old one in- or just have back up tampons for those long days away from your home toilet. That would be a bummer- even after all this time I still can feel that uncomfortable tampon in their and it often kinda hurts to pull it out near the end when my flow is light. No more of those worries with the menstrual cup! Like I said- it’s like its not even there!

I had always been squeamish about the idea of menstrual cups but anxiety about an overnight work event coupled with a super heavy flow led me to finally giving them a shot at 34 years old. I had been a pad user up until this point and as tampons don’t work for me due to a low cervix, I had wrong assumed that cups would be the same. I chose the larger size and it was an absolute game changer. There was definitely a learning curve, it took me several goes of inserting and removing to get there but I did. After I inserted it for the first time, I had some trouble and did the classic panic that I wouldn’t be able to get it out. The seal was strong and it took a few goes before I was fully comfortable reaching in to break it. As someone who has never given birth, I also found the final moments of removal a little painful but bearable. For me, the cup sat with the base just at the entrance to my vagina so with a gentle push from my pelvic floor, it brought it down enough for me to grip and I found I didnt need to use the stem at all. I worried about the cup spilling on removal but again, this was not an issue. Generally, the cup was comfortable. I did have painful cramps this cycle but it would be hard to size of the cup influenced this at all. I could feel the stem as the cup sat low for me so I would be tempted to trim the stem. Capacity wise, I have a heavy flow so I worried that the cup would overflow or leak but this didn’t happen. I changed the cup 4 times a day at my heaviest, on waking, at lunch, when I got home from work and before bed and it would be about half full. Overall, I would say that I wished I’d have made the change from pads to a cup earlier. It was infinitely more comfortable than using pads and was wonderful not to have to worry about flooding as I usually do due to my heavy flow. I did find that I had to wear some extra protection as there would be a little residual blood after each changing but I am now planning on buying some reusable pads to deal with this. The added bonus of knowing you’re not contributing to environmental damage is also wonderful. Happy first time user, very happy I gave it a go!

Very impressed. I find to relax as much as possible all along the way at each point is key!I use dove soap and rinse well. Also bought an electric steamer to sterilise.Nobody mentioned where I was reading up anywhere!!! the pain/shock you get when taking it out!!!Also was a bit uncomfortable the first day/night I almost gave up on it 🙁 so glad I didn’t and gave it another days trial as day 2 was so much better! I found the more in it was the less pain/uncomfortable I got.I’m in my 49s 1 Caesarian. I got the small. I could have got the mini. Not sure if I can keep on with the uncomfortable feeling when removing? Might have to change to a mini…. I’ve still give 5***** s as this has nothing to do with the product it is me :-)Brilliant thing to use.I would definitely recommend but I would not recommend leaving it in for any longer than 24 hours!!! Another thing I didn’t read anywhere. As you would almost certainly be asking to get into trouble! Keep it clean and regularly aired to clean and you’ll be fine!Love it !!! So much better than the old way we have been living for years!!! 🙂

Ok, so the menstrual cup wasn’t for me. I have had 3 children by natural delivery and I think my pelvic floor is a distant memory. I tried both sizes and also the sensitive ones. I love the idea of the cup and would have loved for it to have worked for me.However – what I will say is that I have never experienced customer service quite like what I got with Lena. I emailed them for advice and they just could not do enough to try and help me. They responded quickly, offering advice and, suggestions and solutions. When it was clear the standard versions weren’t working, they refunded me so I could buy the sensitive version and when I didn’t get on with the sensitive version, they sent me another refund so I can try the menstrual disc instead. This is a product the don’t make, but I am very sad as I would definitely recommend Lena as a company and would want them to have my money more than anyone else!I highly recommend trying Lena and if it doesn’t work for you, I’m confident that they would look after you as they did me.

Nice material, feels good quality. Probably really good product for some who can figure out how to use properly. Also quite hard to get out, but again that might just be me.

I first bought the small Lena cup, as it was my first time using a period cup. The cup was easy to put in and the instructions that came with the product were really useful.I struggled the first couple of times removing the cup, but that was purely because it was the first few times of trying. After a couple of removals, it was really easy to do.Unfortunately though, my periods were too heavy for the small cup, as I had to keep on emptying it every 2-3 hours, so I emailed the Lena team and asked if it were possible to ship me the larger cup, as I was leaking with the small cup. They were so helpful and just asked a bit more about the reason behind why I felt I needed the larger size and shipped me the large Lena cup no problem (and no additional charge). The large Lena cup was just as easy to put in and remove as the small cup. I had no leaks with the large cup and haven’t needed to empty it nearly as often.I highly recommend this product to anyone looking to try a period cup for the first time, or to change from the one they’re currently using. The Lena team are also really, really helpful with any personal queries you may have.I also have the coil fitted and have had no problems with the period cups in regards to that either. I had the coil for over 6 months before trying a period cup.Hope this is useful for someone 🙂
